Launch of the National Participation Committee by the Peace Dialogue Table between Colombia and the National Liberation Army
The Brazilian government congratulates the Peace Dialogue Table between the government of the Republic of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN) on the establishment of the National Participation Committee (NPC), which took place in Bogotá on August 3, 2023, in the presence of President Gustavo Petro. The Ambassador of Brazil in Colombia, Paulo Estivallet de Mesquita, attended the event accompanied by the Brazilian guarantor at the Peace Dialogue Table, Ambassador Glivânia de Oliveira.
The launching of the NPC on August 3, the same day when the "Bilateral, National, and Temporary Ceasefire Agreement between the government of the Republic of Colombia and the ELN" comes into full effect, elevates the dialogue process to a new level and strengthens the hope for sustainable and lasting peace in Colombia.
The inaugural event also takes place one day after the approval by the United Nations Security Council of a resolution that extends the mandate of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, allowing it to monitor and verify the implementation of the ceasefire between the Colombian government and the ELN. This decision solidifies the international community's strong commitment to the peace process in Colombia.
As a guarantor country of the peace process between the Colombian government and the ELN, alongside Chile, Cuba, Norway, Mexico, and Venezuela, Brazil reaffirms its commitment to continue contributing to the building of reconciliation in Colombia through dialogue and inclusive social participation.
