Launch of the candidacy of Fábio Balestro Floriano to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR)
On February 28, Brazil launched the candidacy of Fábio Balestro Floriano for commissioner of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), for the mandate from 2024 to 2027.
A lawyer, master in international relations and former director of the Department of International Relations of the Special Secretariat for Human Rights, Balestro has extensive knowledge of the inter-American human rights system.
Until the launch of the candidacy, he served as Senior Advisor for Relations with Member States and Political Bodies of the Organization of American States (OAS) and for International and Interinstitutional Relations of the Executive Secretariat of the IACHR.
The elections will take place at the 53rd General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), to be held in Washington, on June 21-23, 2023. Four of the seven vacancies of the IACHR will be filled in said elections.
