Israeli Airstrike on the Al-Mawasi Humanitarian Zone in Khan Younis

The Brazilian government condemns the Israeli airstrike carried out on September 9th against a displaced persons camp located in the Al-Mawasi humanitarian zone — designated as such by the Israeli military — in the city of Khan Younis, Gaza Strip. The attack resulted in the deaths of dozens of Palestinians, including women and children.

In deploring the recurrence of bombings in densely populated areas that shelter thousands of people displaced by the conflict, Brazil recalls Israel's obligation, under International Humanitarian Law, to act in accordance with the principles of proportionality and distinction, and as an occupying power, to take necessary measures to protect the civilian population in the occupied territories.
