PRESS RELEASE N. 585
International Human Rights Day
The Brazilian government joins the celebrations of International Human Rights Day on December 10. The date marks the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In accordance with its constitutional principles, Brazil maintains a steady commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, both at the domestic and international levels, with particular attention to gender equity, to the fight against racism and to the protection of the rights of Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, the elderly, children and the LGBTQIA+ community.
Brazil also emphasizes the importance of economic, social and cultural rights within a sustainable development perspective and underscores that broad social participation, economic inclusion, and the fight against hunger and poverty are pillars for strengthening democracy.
Since 2024, Brazil has been serving its sixth term at the United Nations Human Rights Council. In its global efforts, Brazil has expanded its cooperation with the universal, inter-American and regional systems with the goal of improving the human rights situation in the country and across the world.
