I Conference on Gender Issues in Brazilian Immigration – Brasilia, June 24 to 26, 2015

With the objective of discussing the various gender issues related to Brazilian immigration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will promote, between June 24 and 26, the I Conference on Gender Issues in Brazilian Immigration .

The Conference will be opened by the Secretary General of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sérgio Danese, and by General Federal Public Defender, Haman Tabosa de Moraes e Córdova.

Issues such as domestic violence, dispute over custody of children, stereotyped images of Brazilian women, women's health issues, issues related to LGBT community and the trafficking and sexual and labor exploitation of Brazilian women will be discussed.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Human Rights will take part on the event, among other agencies of the Federal Government, of the International Organization for Migration and representatives of Brazilian communities in countries where gender issues of greater magnitude are observed.

The event was organized by the Undersecretariat General for Brazilian Communities Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG) and the Council of Representatives of Brazilians Abroad (CRBE), and meets an important demand of Brazilians abroad, of outlining courses of action, policies and other initiatives directed to the Brazilian community abroad, to be implemented by the Ministry and its network ofposts, in partnership with other agencies of the Federal Government.

The Conference will be held at the Meliá 21 Hotel, in Brasília, and will be open to the press. The works will be broadcasted live by FUNAG at its site .

June 25, Thursday:
9:00am – Table 4 – Guardianship Councils and extraction of minors
10:45am – Table 5 – LGBT Communities and their challenges
2:00pm – Table 6 – human trafficking   and procurement/ sexual exploitation
4:30pm – Table 7 - Other issues

June 26, Friday:
9:00 am - Exchange of experiences and projects - Enabling Action Networks
10:00 am Presentation of the list of projects approved by the rapporteurs and formation of working groups to monitor projects/proposals (members of the civil society/government);
4:30pm – Final Plenary;
6:00 pm – Closing Ceremony
