PRESS RELEASE N. 207
Hosting the COP-30 in Brazil
The Brazilian government welcomes the formal endorsement of the city of Belém do Pará by the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (GRULAC) as the host for the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2025. GRULAC's endorsement is a milestone in the selection process for the rotating host of the annual UN summits on climate change. The final formal endorsement phase will be carried out during COP28, scheduled to take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
The support of Latin America and the Caribbean for the Brazilian candidacy demonstrates the confidence of the region in Brazil's credentials to advance the climate change agenda. The Brazilian government is determined to assume this responsibility, convinced of the potential of sustainable development as the guiding principle of regional integration.
In addition, the city of Belém do Pará will host in August 2023 the Amazon Summit - IV Meeting of the Presidents of the States Parties to the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (ACTO). The event will bring together the eight GRULAC countries whose territories are part of this biome: Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.
