High Representative for Gender Issues
The Ministry of External Relations is pleased to announce the appointment of Vanessa Dolce de Faria, minister of the diplomatic career, as High Representative for Gender Issues. Currently Deputy Consul General of Brazil in Barcelona, the High Representative will participate in international meetings about gender issues and will act in articulation with other ministries for the advancement of the agenda.
Vanessa Dolce de Faria was admitted to the Instituto Rio Branco in 1999. A career diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she served as Head of the Southern and Lusophone Africa Division (2016-2019). She was also Advisor at the Special Advisory Office of the President of the Republic (2015-2016) and Chief of Staff at the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (2013-2015). At the Ministry of Planning, Budget, and Management, she was Chief of Staff at the Executive Secretariat (2004-2005). Abroad, he served in the Brazilian embassies in Asunción (2009-2012) and Buenos Aires (2005-2009).
She has published the book “Política externa e participação social: trajetória e perspectivas” ("Foreign policy and social participation: trajectory and prospects.") On gender and diplomacy, she is co-author of the articles "Mulheres na Diplomacia Brasileira” ("Women in Brazilian Diplomacy") and “Uma Política Externa Feminista para o Brasil: desafios e possibilidade” ("A Feminist Foreign Policy for Brazil: challenges and possibilities.") More recently, she published the article "8 de março de 2023: 'No Callem'" ("March 8, 2023: 'No Callem.'")
By establishing the position of High Representative, Itamaraty reaffirms the priority it gives to the promotion of gender equality.
