Expansion of the “Coalition for Multilateral Action against Crimes that Affect the Environment”

The Brazilian government notes with satisfaction the expansion of the “Coalition for Multilateral Action against Crimes that Affect the Environment,” with the inclusion of five new countries (China, Morocco, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and the Central African Republic) and eight civil society organizations (Igarapé Institute, Cipó Platform, Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime, Freeland, Amazon Underworld, Wildlife Conservation Society, Environmental Investigation Agency, and Wildlife Justice Commission). The announcement of the new accessions comes on the eve of the second meeting of the Intergovernmental Expert Group on crimes that affect the environment, to be held in Vienna, on February 24 - 26.

The Coalition, created in November 2025, promotes the establishment of a binding legal framework against environmental crimes under the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC).

The Coalition remains open to new members and  currently includes 16 countries (among them Brazil) and 10 civil society organizations.
