Election of the new IOM Director General

The Brazilian Government congratulates António Vitorino, former minister of the Presidency and former minister of National Defense of Portugal, on his election as the new Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The Brazilian government hopes that the Director General-elect of the IOM will succeed in conducting the organization (as the leading agency in the migration field) in the implementation and follow-up to the Global Compact for Migration and in achieving the migration-related goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Brazilian government expresses its willingness to work for the success of Mr. Vitorino’s directorship.
