The Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrates the election of Dr. Rodrigo Mudrovitsch to the position of judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (2022-2027 term). The election has been held today among the States parties to the American Convention on Human Rights, during the 51st General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), in Washington, DC.
The Brazilian candidate won the most votes (19 of the 24 possible votes) among the seven candidates vying for four seats. This result demonstrates, in addition to the candidate’s credentials, the recognition of the role of the Brazilian foreign policy in the inter-American human rights system.
Rodrigo Mudrovitsch holds a Ph.D in State Law from the Univeristy of São Paulo and a master’s degree in Constitutional Law from the University of Brasilia. He is member of several magistrate commissions within the scope of the National Congress, the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association and the National Council of Justice. He also has an intense career as a lawyer and as a professor in the field of human rights.
The Inter-American Court was established by the American Convention on Human Rights in 1969 and began its activities in 1979 in the city of San Jose, Costa Rica. It is composed of seven judges who are elected for a six-year term.
With the election of the Brazilian candidate to the Court, the Brazilian government renews its commitment to the inter-American human rights system and reaffirms the importance of the Court in promoting and protecting human rights in the region.
