Death of the President of the Republic of Malawi, Bingu wa Mutharika

The Brazilian Government conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Malawi on the death, on last 5 April, of President Bingu wa Mutharika.

Brazil welcomes the observance of the presidential succession process provided for in the Constitution of Malawi, which allowed for Vice President Joyce Banda to take over the presidency, thus becoming the first woman to lead the country.
