Death of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza

The Brazilian government received with deep dismay the announcement that the bodies of six Israelis who had been held captive by Hamas in the Gaza Strip since the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks have been found.

Brazil rejects all forms of violence against civilians and condemns the death of the hostages. It also conveys its condolences to the families of the victims and deplores the continuing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

This announcement reaffirms the Brazilian government's conviction about the urgent need to reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire agreement that would allow the release of all hostages and unhindered humanitarian assistance to the population of the Gaza Strip.

In this context, Brazil calls on the parties to immediately and fully implement the ceasefire proposal adopted by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2735 (2024).
