PRESS RELEASE N. 279
Death of Brazilian Tourist on Volcano in Indonesia
The Brazilian government announces, with deep sorrow, the death of Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins, who fell from a cliff surrounding the trail near the crater of Mount Rinjani (3,726 meters high), a volcano located approximately 1,200 km from Jakarta, on the island of Lombok. After four days of search efforts—hampered by adverse weather, terrain, and visibility conditions—teams from the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency located the body of the Brazilian tourist.
The Brazilian Embassy in Jakarta mobilized local authorities at the highest level to support the rescue efforts and had been closely monitoring the search operations since Friday night, when it was informed of the fall on Mount Rinjani.
The Brazilian government extends its condolences to the family and friends of the Brazilian tourist for their immense loss in this tragic accident.
