PRESS RELEASE N. 152
COP 26 outcomes
Brazil has constructively contributed to the outcomes reached at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 26) in Glasgow. The Brazilian government expresses its gratitude to the Government of the United Kingdom, the host country, to the United Nations Secretary General, to the Executive Secretary of the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and to all participating countries for their efforts in the negotiations.
Brazilian negotiators played a collaborative role in the search for possible consensus on the topics of the Conference agenda. The Brazilian government positively welcomes the agreements reached on the definition of the Paris Agreement operational rules, including global markets to reduce emissions, transparency of actions and support initiatives, common time frames, adaptation and climate financing.
The Brazilian government believes that the UNFCCC multilateral framework and its instruments remain strengthened as a reference to face common problems caused by climate change. The moment created in Glasgow demands that all parties be engaged to implement the decisions taken, bearing in mind the common but differentiated responsibilities and the respective capacities of the Parties, as well as their domestic circumstances.
Brazil reiterates its commitment to the implementation of all obligations provided for in the Framework Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. Solutions to the climate problem involve sustainable development, reaching carbon neutrality in the set of economic activities, improving adaptation capacity, reducing risks and renouncing unsustainable production and consumption patterns.
In Glasgow, Brazil has proved that it is part of the solution, in all these areas, to the problems caused by climate change.
