Conference of the African Diaspora of the Americas – Salvador, August 29-31, 2024
From August 29 to 31, 2024, Salvador will host the Conference of the African Diaspora of the Americas. The event is organized by the African Union and the Government of Togo in partnership with the Federal Government of Brazil and the Government of the State of Bahia, with support from the Federal University of Bahia and the Brazil-Africa Institute. The conference is one of the preparatory events for the 9th Pan-African Congress, to take place in Lomé from October 29 to November 2, 2024. It marks the first time that African Union Member States are holding a diaspora conference outside the African continent.
On August 29 and 30, prominent figures from Brazilian and international civil society will convene to discuss proposals on Pan-Africanism, memory, restitution, reparation, and reconstruction, which will be presented to the 9th Pan-African Congress.
On August 31, during the formal closing session, in the presence of national and foreign dignitaries, civil society representatives will present these proposals to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Togo, who presides over the African Union's High-Level Committee on the Implementation of the Agenda for the Decade of African Roots and the African Diaspora.
