Ceasefire in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
The Brazilian government has received with satisfaction the information regarding the meeting held on July 30 in Angola between the Foreign Ministers of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, which resulted in a ceasefire agreement in eastern DRC, effective from August 4.
The meeting was held within the scope of the Luanda Process, a dialogue mechanism mediated by the President of Angola, João Lourenço, and endorsed by the African Union, aiming to reach a negotiated solution to the security crisis in eastern DRC.
In congratulating the governments of Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda for their diplomatic efforts, the Brazilian government reiterates its support for African regional initiatives aimed at achieving peaceful resolution to conflicts on the continent.
