PRESS RELEASE N. 472
Brazilian initiative is selected for the UNESCO Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education
The Brazilian government welcomed the selection of the initiative “Piauí Inteligência Artificial” for the 2025 edition of the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education.
The project was implemented by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in collaboration with the Piauí State Secretary of Education. It was nominated by the Brazilian National Commission for UNESCO — whose functions are carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — to represent the country in this edition of the award.
The initiative was among the four laureates of the Prize, which received 86 international submissions from over 50 member states and non-governmental organizations. The international jury highlighted the “Piauí Inteligência Artificial” project as a comprehensive and inclusive model, capable of empowering educators and social agents to promote the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in education.
The selection of the Brazilian project, which is based on a critical analysis of AI applications and on the support of equity and inclusion, reflects the importance that Brazil places on digital technologies as allies in social and educational development.
