The Brazilian government has appointed Ambassador Mauricio Carvalho Lyrio, Secretary for Economic and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to serve as the country’s chief negotiator (sherpa) for BRICS during Brazil’s 2025 presidency of the bloc, replacing Ambassador Eduardo Paes Saboia.
With extensive diplomatic experience, Ambassador Mauricio Carvalho Lyrio also serves as Brazil’s sherpa for the G20. He will be responsible for organizing an extensive agenda of technical and ministerial meetings during Brazil’s pro tempore presidency of BRICS, which will culminate in the Leaders’ Summit.
