On Nov. 15, Brazil was elected for the 2023-2027 term of the UNESCO Executive Board. The Brazilian candidacy had the support of 159 countries.
In the context of the 42nd General Conference of the Organization, Brazil was also reappointed to the Intergovernamental Hydrological Programme Council and the Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication. It will also join the councils of the Information for All Programme and the Management of Social Transformations Programme, in addition to the Headquarters Committee of the Organization.
Within the scope of UNESCO, Brazil is currently a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage; the Subsidiary Committee of the 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Property of Ownership of Cultural Property, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission; and the Intergovernmental Bioethics Committee.
