Brazil elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council

Brazil was elected today, October 28, to the United Nations Human Rights Council. After participating in the Council for three terms since its inception in 2006, Brazil is elected once again to a seat  in the organ for the 2017-2019 term. The mandate will start on January 1, 2017.

The election took place  in New York, during the 71st United Nations General Assembly. The Brazilian candidacy received 137 votes.

The Brazilian Government thanks the members of the United Nations for the support received. During the new mandate, our country will work to increase the effectiveness of the Council in promoting and protecting human rights.
