PRESS RELEASE N. 320
Brazil and the UN sign a new Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027
The Brazilian government and the United Nations have signed today a new Brazil-UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 (UNSDCF) on the occasion of the visit of UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed to Brasília. The UNSDCF will guide the Brazil-UN partnership until 2027. This is the most important instrument for planning, implementing, and monitoring the UN System’s activities in the country.
The UNSDCF’s primary reference documents were the Plurianual Plan (PPA) and the Federal Development Strategy 2020-2031. The alignment between the programmes ensures that the UN system’s contribution in Brazil is objective and in line with the national efforts already channelled into the country's main development issues.
For the new Framework, a set of five strategic priority areas were identified: "Economic Transformation"; "Social Inclusion"; "Environment and Climate Change"; "Governance and Institutional Capacity"; and "Conflict Prevention and the relation between Humanitarian actions, Development actions and Peacebuilding Efforts”. A total of 165 representatives of 18 institutions from the three branches of government took part in the drafting of the UNSDCF. Civil society participated throughout the process. The Participa+Brasil platform and the United Nations social media profiles received engagement from more than 21 thousand people.
