Attacks on the UN Mission for Stabilization in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO)
The Brazilian government condemns in the strongest terms the recent attacks against bases of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in North Kivu province, which resulted in civilian casualties and the death of three blue helmets of Indian and Moroccan nationality. The attacks also involved the looting of materials and the destruction of facilities.
By expressing condolences and solidarity with the families of the victims and the United Nations soldiers, as well as the governments of India and Morocco, the Brazilian Government reiterates its firm repudiation of any and all attacks against UN peacekeeping personnel and facilities, and calls on the Congolese authorities to investigate the attacks and bring those responsible to justice.
Brazil reaffirms its support for MONUSCO and the efforts of the Congolese government and the international community in favor of stabilization and the consolidation of peace in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
