Assassination of Haiti's President
The Brazilian government expresses its condolences to and stands in solidarity with the government and the people of Haiti for the death of President Jovenel Moïse, who was assassinated early this morning in Port au Prince. Brazil hopes that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
The Brazilian government strongly condemns the attack and reaffirms the importance of the commitment of Haitian political forces to democracy and human rights in the country. Brazil also expresses its support to the Haitian authorities. It also reaffirms its rejection of any and all acts that may threaten the rule of law and the democratic order and calls on Haitians to promote dialogue and understanding with a view to creating the conditions for overcoming the current crisis, within the framework of the constitution now in force in that country.
Finally, the Brazilian government conveys its heartfelt condolences to President Moïse's relatives and wishes a quick recovery to the victims of the attack.
