Anniversary of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace
Today, Brazil observes the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace (29 January 2014, by the Heads of State and Government of CELAC). In this context, the Brazilian government reaffirms its commitment to peaceful coexistence, respect for International Law, and the promotion of friendship and cooperation ties.
The Proclamation reaffirms the principles of the peaceful settlement of disputes and non-intervention in internal affairs. The text also underscores the preservation of national sovereignty and equality among States. For Brazil, these principles remain current and essential to strengthening mutual trust and preventing actions that could jeopardize regional security and stability.
Brazil reaffirms its full adherence to the commitments set forth in the Proclamation, including dialogue promotion, regional integration, and a culture of peace. It further reaffirms its commitment to working toward the preservation of peace in the region, in accordance with International Law and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
