Adoption of UN Security Council resolution on a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory
The Brazilian government welcomed the news that the UN Security Council adpted a resolution concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The resolution, passed today with 14 votes in favor and one abstention, is the first Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian territory through the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on April 9. The adopted text also calls for the immediate release of all hostages and humanitarian access to address their medical and humanitarian needs.
The resolution further emphasizes the urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian assistance and to reinforce the protection of civilians in the entire Gaza Strip.
Brazil recalls the binding nature of UN Security Council decisions and hopes that the ceasefire will be implemented immediately, as demanded by the resolution. Brazil also reaffirms the urgency of ensuring the effective entry of expanded and regular humanitarian aid into Gaza, as well as the release of all hostages.
