PRESS RELEASE N. 62
Adoption of the report of the United Nations Group of Governmental Experts on Cybersecurity
The Brazilian government welcomed the adoption by consensus, on May 28, of the report of the United Nations Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) on Cybersecurity. The GGE was established by the United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/73/266, comprised experts from 25 States, and was chaired by the Brazilian expert, Ambassador Guilherme Patriota.
The adoption of the report allowed for the deepening and expansion of common understandings on cybersecurity, based on the voluntary norms for responsible behavior in cyberspace adopted by consensus in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/70/237).
The report addressed the following main topics: existing and potential threats in cyberspace; application of international law in this environment; transparency and confidence-building measures; and cooperation for capacity building in the cyber area.
