5th Meeting of the Brazil-Argentina Political Coordination Mechanism
The Secretary General of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha, and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Ambassador Leopoldo Sahores, co-chaired the 5th Meeting of the Brazil-Argentina Political Coordination Mechanism in Buenos Aires today.
The Mechanism held its last edition in May 2023. It convenes at the level of deputy foreign ministers and is the main regular forum for political and diplomatic coordination between the two countries. The meeting offers an opportunity to review the traditional and broad agenda of bilateral cooperation and integration.
Brazil-Argentina relations brings tangible benefits to the peoples of the two countries. It is characterized by the high volumes of bilateral trade and investment flows, great integration between border populations and physical infrastructure, large inflows and outflows of tourists and students, and cooperation in strategic sectors including defense, security, conventional and nuclear energy, and science, technology and innovation.
Argentina is the third main destination for Brazilian exports and the fourth main source of our imports. In 2023, bilateral trade totaled $28.7 billion, a 0.9% growth compared to 2022. Brazilian exports totaled $16.7 billion and imports from Argentina amounted to $ 11.9 billion. Bilateral trade is marked by a strong presence of the manufacturing industry and high value-added products.
