2nd Nuclear Security Summit

The 2nd Summit on Nuclear Physical Security will be held in Seoul, South Korea, on 26 and 27 March. The commitments made at the 1st Summit, in Washington, at the initiative of US President Barack Obama, will be examined. Brazil will be represented at the Seoul Summit by Vice-President Michel Temer.

Brazil supported President Obama’s initiative as we concur that the operation of nuclear facilities and the management of nuclear material ought to be carried out in the safest possible manner, according to the parameters agreed upon within the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA).

Brazil deems that nuclear physical security must address the creation of a secure global environment that will foster and strengthen the promotion of peaceful and legitimate uses of nuclear energy. We also deem that nuclear physical security, in a wider sense, is closely related to the promotion of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
