150th Regular Session of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Brasilia, between August 22 and 26, 2022
At the invitation of Brazil, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR Court) will hold its 150th Regular Session in Brasilia from August 22th to 26th, 2022. It will be the third time the Court meets in person in Brazil. The two previous sessions held in the country took place in 2006 and 2013.
The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Superior Court of Justice of Brazil. The first day (22) will be reserved for the opening ceremony, at the Itamaraty Palace. The trial sessions will take place at the headquarters of the Superior Court of Justice, from the 23rd to the 26th.
A seminar (8/22) and trial sessions will be open to the public, upon prior registration, and will be broadcast live on the official channel of the Court on YouTube. The Inter-American Court is an autonomous judicial body responsible for applying and interpreting the American Convention on Human Rights (Pact of San José, Costa Rica). Brazil ratified the Covenant in 1992 and recognized the mandatory jurisdiction of the Inter-American Court in 1998.
