10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the BRICS – July 26-27, 2018
The 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of BRICS, with the participation of President Michel Temer, will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa on July 26-27.
The BRICS Heads of State and Government will express positions on key issues on the international agenda, such as reform of international political and economic governance, peace and security, trade, regional crises and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. On that occasion, the bloc’s Heads of State and Government will reinforce the need to maintain the integrity and the full operation of the multilateral trading system.
At the Johannesburg Summit, the Headquarters Agreement of the Regional Office for the Americas of the New Development Bank (the BRICS Bank), to be located in Brazil, in the city of São Paulo, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on Regional Aviation of the BRICS (which will promote the exchange of experiences and information on regulatory frameworks) will be signed. The establishment of a BRICS Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations and a vaccine research center will be approved. Finally, a network of technology parks will be created to promote the competitive insertion of the BRICS in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The BRICS accounts for 23% of GDP and 18.2% of trade in the world. From 2006 to 2017 intra-bloc trade grew from $92 billion to $288 billion. In the same period, Brazil's trade with the other BRICS countries reached $ 89.7 billion, an increase of 27.7% over the previous year.
