Activities in the Sensory Garden for the National Day of Struggle for the Rights of People with Disabilities
Tuesday, September 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m  

A program focused on accessibility, inclusion, and raising awareness of the rights of people with disabilities, as part of the events marking the National Day of Struggle for the Rights of People with Disabilities, celebrated on September 21.

The program includes guided tours of the Sensory Garden and cognitive-sensory activities, such as guided experiences, a sensory mat, and boxes with tactile and olfactory stimuli. The activities address issues related to accessibility, the barriers faced by people with disabilities, and different ways of interacting with nature.

V EPA - Ethnobotany with Open Doors
Thursday, September 24, at 2:00 p.m.
The fifth edition of EPA welcomes Professor Gustavo Borja, who holds a master’s degree, to speak on the topic “The Legacy of Memory: What Ethnobotany Reveals About Our Plants and Our History.”
With a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from PUC-Rio and a master’s degree from UFRJ, the speaker is a researcher specializing in the relationships between people and plants. He works with medicinal plants and is dedicated to studying traditional knowledge and care practices passed down from generation to generation. In addition, he is the founder of Farmácia Botânica, a project focused on educating the public and promoting this knowledge.
The lecture traces different moments in the history of the relationship between people and plants in Brazil. Beginning with the Dutch period in the Northeast, it will address the artistic representations of Brazilian nature by Frans Post and Albert Eckhout, as well as the dissemination of knowledge about medicinal plants between the colony and Europe. The discussion then moves on to explore the connections between plants, memory, and Brazilian culture, culminating in samba as an expression of knowledge, symbols, and practices related to the plant world.

Exhibition “The Time of Plants”
Thursday through Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Casa Pacheco Leão
The exhibition traces the origins of Camellia sinensis in the mountains of southern China and Coffea arabica in the highlands of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sudan, reflecting on the historical connections between Africa, Asia, and Brazil. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the work *Tea no Tea* by Chinese artist Jingwei Bu, which evokes the tea ceremony. By removing the objects of the ritual, the artist invites us to notice what remains: the time dedicated to others, the present body, the pause, and the relationship.
Free admission.

Discovering the Biodiversity of the Cerrado
Monday through Friday (September), from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To celebrate Cerrado Day (September 11), a special program organized by the JBRJ Environmental Education Service will take place throughout the month of September, featuring fun activities about the biodiversity of this Brazilian biome. Through interactive games and a painting workshop, the program introduces participants to the biome’s characteristics, plants, animals, and interesting facts, sparking children’s interest in the preservation and appreciation of biodiversity.
