Weekly Program at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, October 9 to 15
Activities at the Sensory Garden for National Day of Struggle for the Rights of Persons with disabilities
Tuesday, October 13, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The program focuses on accessibility, inclusion, and raising awareness of the rights of people with disabilities, as part of the mobilizations for the National Day of Struggle for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, observed on September 21.
The program includes guided tours of the Sensory Garden and cognitive-sensory activities, including guided mobility experiences, a sensory mat, and boxes with tactile and olfactory stimuli. The activities address issues related to accessibility, barriers faced by people with disabilities, and different ways of interacting with nature.

Environmental Educator’s Day to Feature Creative Workshop and Tour of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden for Educators and Teachers
To celebrate Environmental Educator’s Day, observed on October 15, the Environmental Education Service (SEA) of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden will hold a special gathering for educators, teachers, and professionals from institutions that partner with the SEA.
The initiative aims to provide a moment of integration, relaxation, exchange of experiences, and appreciation for professionals working in education. It also seeks to recognize the importance of their practices in building knowledge and strengthening the relationship between society and the environment.
The program will include a playful and creative workshop on making educational materials using accessible and/or recyclable materials, followed by a walk through the Arboretum. During the tour, which will also have a recreational character, participants will learn about elements of the flora, landscape, and history, as well as the environmental and scientific importance of the space.
The activity is free and will begin at 9 a.m. No advance registration is required. The SEA is located next to the ticket office.

The trail earns a stamp toward the Trail Explorer journey in the Botanical Garden Passport.
Exhibition “The Time of Plants”
Thursday to Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Casa Pacheco Leão
The exhibition explores the origins of Camellia sinensis in the mountains of southern China and Coffea arabica in the highlands of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sudan, reflecting on the historical connections between Africa, Asia, and Brazil. One of the highlights of the exhibition is Tea no Tea, by Chinese artist Jingwei Bu, which evokes the tea ceremony. By removing the objects from the ritual, the artist invites us to notice what remains: the time devoted to others, being present, the pause, and human connection.

Botanical Garden Museum Program with Special Activities for Children’s Day
Exhibition “Women in Science: Graziela Barroso and Marie Curie”

Free admission.
The exhibition honors scientists Graziela Barroso and Marie Curie and features photographs, documents, research instruments, and historical records of the two researchers. The initiative is part of the program of the 23rd National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT), which this year has the theme “Their Science.” The event will take place at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden from October 27 to November 1.
Launch of the Book Semeando histórias: Guia de experiências para a educação infantil + Conversation with MJB Educators

Conversation with simultaneous Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpretation to launch the book Semeando histórias: Guia de experiências para a educação infantil, which brings together a series of activities for early childhood education developed by the Botanical Garden Museum’s education team.
Workshop with MJB Educators
Inhabiting the Garden: Research as an Educational Practice

Through experiences in the Museum gardens, participants learn about the research and educational practices of the MJB Education Program and transform sensations, memories, and botanical knowledge into affective maps on fabric. The activity includes a Brazilian Sign Language interpreter.
Cultivating Ideas: Children and Nature

In partnership with the Memorial of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Rio de Janeiro and Instituto Alana, the program brings together discussions and cinema to reflect on childhood, nature, and education. The discussion “Museums, Parks, and Naturalized Spaces” addresses children’s contact with nature and climate literacy, with Carolina Capitu Maciel (Alana), Graziela Kunsch (visual artist and educator), Maria Luiza Lopes (MJB), and Paolo Massoni (ENBT/JBRJ). This will be followed by a screening of the film Do Colo da Terra and the discussion “Indigenous Childhoods,” addressing ways of living, learning, and caring for nature, with Guilherme Lobo Pecoral (Alana), Martinha Guajajara (FNEEI), Renata Meirelles (Território do Brincar), and Veronica Pinheiro (LAS).
