Weekly Program – September 4 to 7
Avistar Rio 2026
Dedicated to birdwatching and the conservation of Brazilian birdlife, Avistar Rio 2026 will take place from September 4 to 7 at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. The event is part of Avistar Brasil and brings together bird enthusiasts, researchers, photographers, guides, and birdwatchers for activities for audiences of all ages. The free program will take place at the Botanical Garden Museum, Galpão das Artes, the Arboretum, and the Association of Friends of the Botanical Garden (AAJB).
This edition also features activities for children, Avistar Kids, from September 5 to 7, in the Museum Gardens and at the exhibition Ser(Tão): Immersion in the Cerrado.

Amazon Trail
On Amazon Day, celebrated on September 5, visitors to the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden will be able to take part in the Amazon Trail and discover 20 plant species native to the Amazon biome cultivated in the arboretum. Highlights include the rubber tree, kapok tree, mulato tree, açaí palm, monkey pot tree, among others. The guided tour will begin at 10 a.m. at the Visitor Center. The trail is free with admission to the arboretum.
The Amazon Region at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden is home to one of the arboretum’s largest living collections. It includes species introduced by naturalist Adolpho Ducke (1876–1959), former head of the Garden’s Botany Section, following his expeditions to the Amazon.
This activity earns the monthly stamp for the Trail Explorer journey in the Botanical Garden Passport.

The history of tea and coffee begins with the origins of Camellia sinensis, in the mountains of southern China, and Coffea arabica, in the highlands of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sudan, inviting reflection on the historical connections between Africa, Asia, and Brazil.
