Friday Trails – Noble Trees Trail

Fridays, August 7, 14, 21 and 28 | 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Meeting point: Visitor Center – 1008 Rua Jardim Botânico

The trail features 27 noble tree species in the Arboretum, mainly from the Atlantic Forest and Amazon, including Brazilwood, kapok, mahogany and others. The term “noble trees” encompasses the ecological, economic and landscape importance of these species.

This activity earns a monthly stamp for the Trailblazer journey in the Jardim Botânico Passport.

Exhibition: “The Time of Plants”

Thursday to Tuesday | 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Casa Pacheco Leão – 1008 Rua Jardim Botânico
Free admission. On display through June 2027.

The history of tea and coffee begins with the origins of Camellia sinensis in the mountains of southern China and Coffea arabica in the highlands of Ethiopia, Kenya and Sudan, reflecting on the historical connections between Africa, Asia and Brazil.

Free admission.

Tea Ceremony at Casa Pacheco Leão

Date: Friday, August 28
Times: 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Tickets are sold out.

The activity introduces visitors to the preparation of tea according to Chinese tradition, including a tasting. The attraction is free and will take place in two sessions, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Only 20 participants will be admitted per session. The ceremony will be presented by tea ceremony specialist Hanzhe, accompanied by musician Gao Chunhan, who will play the Chinese string instrument pipa.

This activity earns a monthly stamp for the Arboretum Legend journey in the Jardim Botânico Passport. Participants must take a selfie at the location and present it at the Visitor Center.

Lecture “The genus Passiflora: an emerging Liana model for the Neotropics”, with researcher Maxime Rome, from the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris

Date: Friday, August 28
Time: 2 p.m.
Location: Multi-Purpose Room, Jardim Botânico Museum

Students and researchers from outside JBRJ are also welcome to attend.

Lecture “An eco-evolutionary approach to characterize the impact of environmental fluctuations on biodiversity”, with Professor François Munoz, Université Lyon 1

Birdwatching Walk

Date: Saturday, August 29
Time: 8 a.m.
Meeting point: in front of the Cactus House

Organized by the Association of Friends of the Jardim Botânico (AAJB), the walk will be guided by ornithologist Henrique Rajão and will last approximately four hours. Visitors who are not AAJB members only need to pay the Arboretum entrance fee.

In case of rain, the walk will be canceled.

Domingo no Jardim – Puppet Theater

“A Torre dos Terríveis Dragões” (“The Tower of the Terrible Dragons”), with the Papa Vento Puppet Theater Company

Date: Sunday, August 30, at 10 a.m.
Location: Children’s Playground at the Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro

The Papa Vento Puppet Theater Company presents “A Torre dos Terríveis Dragões”, an action-packed story with plenty of audience participation. Recommended for children ages 4 to 7, the story follows the Fire Princess, who is surprised while out for a walk by a terrible wizard, who imprisons her at the top of a tower guarded by three dragons.

This activity earns a monthly stamp for the Arboretum Legend journey in the Jardim Botânico Passport. Participants must take a selfie at the location and present it at the Visitor Center.

Natural Ink Drawing Workshop

Açaí, the Guardian

A conversation about the plant that symbolizes the Amazon, followed by the creation of drawings using natural ink.

A visit for people with disabilities and their companions. During this exclusive time slot, the Museum offers sound adjustments, sensory resources and welcoming mediation for an accessible and multisensory experience.

A multisensory visit through the Museum and Sensory Garden, with educational mediation and a Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpreter.

Planting Stories

Cassava

Time: 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Multi-Purpose Room
Audience: children and families
Capacity: 20, on a first-come, first-served basis

From root to market. Discover cassava through the story of Mani and the knowledge and technologies developed by traditional peoples. This interactive and sensory experience also includes Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpreters.
