Friday Guided Walks – Noble Trees Trail

Fridays, August 7, 14, 21, and 28 | 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Meeting Point: Visitor Center – 1008 Jardim Botânico Street

The route features 27 noble tree species from the arboretum, mainly from the Atlantic Forest and Amazonian forests, including Brazilwood, kapok, mahogany, and others. The term “noble trees” refers to the ecological, economic, and landscape importance of these species.

This activity counts toward the monthly stamp for the Trailblazer journey in the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Visitor Passport.

Sunday at the Garden

“Um Trem pelo Brasil” concert, featuring guitarist Jean Charnaux, with André Fróes on drums and percussion.

The repertoire features original compositions by Jean Charnaux, bringing together choro, samba, baião, and forró.

Sunday, August 23, at 11:00 a.m., in the area in front of the Dom João Bust.

Free performance. Arboretum admission is required.

This activity counts toward the monthly stamp for the Arboretum Legend journey in the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Visitor Passport.

Admission

Visitors residing in Brazil: R$40.00 (full admission) and R$20.00 (half-price admission)

International visitors: R$80.00

Children up to 5 years old receive free admission. Brazilian residents aged 60 and over, people with disabilities, students, and other eligible groups are entitled to half-price admission and pay R$20.00.

Payment at the ticket office: cash or Pix only. Online tickets are available at jbrj.eleventickets.com with Pix or credit card.

Botanical Garden Museum Program – August 21–23

August 21 (Friday)

Educational Tour

JBRJ Museum, Collection and Memory

Time: 10:00–11:00 a.m.

Meeting Point: Welcome Room

Audience: Children and families

Capacity: 20 participants, first come, first served

The tour includes the Botanical Garden Museum and the JBRJ technical reserve, which houses historical, scientific, and institutional collections.

August 22 (Saturday)

Art and Nature Workshop

Guardians of the Forest

Time: 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. | 2:30–4:00 p.m.

Meeting Point: Multipurpose Room

Audience: Children and families

Capacity: 10 participants per session

Create characters using natural elements such as leaves, branches, and seeds.

August 23 (Sunday)

Educational Tour

Sensory-Cognitive Experience

Time: 9:00–10:00 a.m.

Meeting Point: Welcome Room

Audience: People with disabilities and their companions

Capacity: 20 participants, first come, first served

A tour for people with disabilities and their companions. During this exclusive session, the Museum offers sound adjustments, sensory resources, and welcoming mediation for an accessible and multisensory experience.

Forest Knowledge

Time: 10:30–11:30 a.m.

Meeting Point: Welcome Room

Audience: Children and families

Capacity: 20 participants, first come, first served

A guided visit to the BioOCAnomia Amazônica exhibition. Participants will explore the Amazon as a territory of knowledge and innovation shaped by Indigenous peoples and traditional communities.

Planting Stories

Baniwa Pepper

Time: 2:30–4:00 p.m.

Venue: Multipurpose Room

Audience: Children and families

Capacity: 20 participants, first come, first served

Learn about the different stages of Baniwa pepper cultivation and its organic management.

Lecture: “The genus Passiflora: an emerging liana model for the Neotropics”

With researcher Maxime Rome, from the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris.

Date: August 24 (Monday), at 2:00 p.m.

Venue: Multipurpose Room, Botanical Garden Museum

Students and researchers from outside the JBRJ are also welcome to attend.

4th Edition of Ethnobotany Open Doors

Theme: “Field Experiences and Knowledge Dialogue: Agroecology, Ethnobotany, and Traditional Practices in Rural Rio de Janeiro”

Researcher Mateus Vieira da Cunha Salim (ENBT/JBRJ) will discuss his experiences in rural areas of the state of Rio de Janeiro, promoting a dialogue between ethnobotany and agroecology. The presentation will address concepts related to agroecology, agroforestry systems, and ethnobotany.

Time: 2:30 p.m.

Venue: Medicinal Plants Thematic Collection, Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden – 915 Pacheco Leão Street

Venue: Casa Pacheco Leão – 1008 Jardim Botânico Street

Free admission. On display through June 2027.

The history of tea and coffee begins with the origins of Camellia sinensis in the mountains of southern China and Coffea arabica in the highlands of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sudan, reflecting on the historical connections between Africa, Asia, and Brazil.
