The beauty of winter orchids on display at the Rio Botanical Garden
The program includes mini-courses, lectures, guided tours, video and photo screenings, as well as an orchid raffle and sale of books and supplies.
Winter brings us beautiful blooms of native and exotic orchid species. Many will be on display at the Winter Orchid Show at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. Also present will be hybrids with their distinctive shapes, colors, and scents. The event will take place on August 8, 9, and 10, at the orchid garden, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The highlight of the exhibition is the Cattleya walkeriana, a native orchid that draws attention for its striking scent.
The program includes mini-courses on cultivation, lectures, guided tours, photo and video projections on cultivation, as well as a raffle for flowering orchids and the sale of books and supplies. One flowering orchid will be raffled off each day among visitors at noon. The activities are free, with only the arboretum entrance fee charged.
- Every season of the year, there are species of orchids in bloom. Some seasons are more floriferous than others, but there will always be orchids to be seen and admired in all seasons - says Delfina de Araújo, curator of the orchid collection at the Rio Botanical Garden.
In addition to the plants on display in the central area of the glass greenhouse, flowering orchids and orchids in various stages of growth will be on sale. The exhibition will also feature the participation of Orchid Castle (Roland Brooks Cooke) and Valverde Orquídeas.
