The Atlantic Forest Trail is the Friday attraction in May at the Rio Botanical Garden
Jatobá, paineira, ipê-roxo, chichá, vinhático, bromélia-imperial and pau-brasil are some of the species featured on the Friday Trails in May, with the Atlantic Forest Trail at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. The walking trail lasts approximately one hour and 30 minutes, and features 27 species of the biome grown in the arboretum. Atlantic Forest Day is celebrated on May 27.
The Atlantic Forest biome is one of the richest in species diversity in the world, with 19,962 species of plants, algae and fungi known to science, according to Flora e Funga do Brasil. Of these, more than 2,100 have already been assessed as endangered by the National Center for Flora Conservation (CNCFlora/JBRJ).
The Friday Trails are guided by the Visitor Center staff and are free of charge, with only an entrance fee for the arboretum. There is no need to register, just arrive and take part. Tickets can be purchased at the box office (in cash or pix) or at jbrj.eleventickets.com with pix or credit card.
