Tea Ceremony and “Brazilian Harmonies” on the program at Casa Pacheco Leão

This February, the Tea Ceremony and musical concert at Casa Pacheco Leão will take place on the 27th and 28th, respectively. The ceremony will be conducted by Professor Li Lu, with musical accompaniment by Professor Jing Tingting, who plays the traditional Chinese plucked string instrument zhongruan. The activity is free and will take place on Friday at two times, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. No ticket is required for the arboretum. There are only 20 participants per time slot. On Saturday, the 28th, the concert “Harmonias brasileiras” will be presented by the Orquestra Carioca de Flautas (Carioca Flute Orchestra), outdoors on the balcony of the House, in two sessions, at 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. As with the ceremony, no ticket is required for the arboretum. In case of rain, the recital will be canceled.

Conceived by Sérgio Barrenechea, the Orquestra Carioca de Flautas presents arrangements and adaptations for flute ensembles, which include lower-pitched flutes, such as G flutes, bass flutes, and contrabass flutes.

The program includes works by Heitor Villa-Lobos (Bachianas No. 4: I – Prelude), Dorival Caymmi (Suíte Caymmi- A lenda de Abaeté / Pescaria / Samba da minha terra / Maracangalha / Promessa de pescador), Paulinho da Viola and Fernando Costa (Choro negro), Chiquinha Gonzaga (Lua Branca), among others. The conductor is Eduardo Lagreca Fan, and the artistic director is Sérgio Barrenechea.

The Orquestra Carioca de Flautas was created in 2016. In 2023, it made its Brazilian debut with Victor Somma's “Elijah and the Wind, for Flute Octet (2022)” at the XXV Biennial of Contemporary Brazilian Music. The group has also performed at Sala Cecília Meireles, with Turkish flutist Lelya Bayramoğullari as soloist.
