Sunday in the Garden presents the Alexandre Caldi and Rafael Mallmith Duo
The musicians bring to the audience original compositions and works by masters of Brazilian music.
The duo formed by saxophonist and flutist Alexandre Caldi and guitarist Rafael Mallmith is the attraction of Domingo no Jardim on August 3. The show takes place at 11 a.m., in front of the bust of Dom João. The musicians bring to the audience original compositions and works by masters of Brazilian music, such as Pixinguinha, Paulo Moura, Baden Powell, and Cesar Camargo Mariano.
Formed by two exponents of the Rio de Janeiro music scene, the duo made its debut this year and is dedicated to reverberating the choro repertoire—with an emphasis on contemporary works—and other Brazilian genres embraced by instrumental music.
Composer, arranger, and instrumentalist Alexandre Caldi is one of the few representatives of Brazilian wind instruments to incorporate Latin influences into his work in a refined and expressive way. He plays the soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, as well as the flute, piccolo, and fife. In Buarqueanas, his latest album, released in 2021, he plays the work of Chico Buarque accompanied by the Metacústico Quartet. He is one of the most sought-after musicians in Rio, having performed with dozens of artists, such as Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethânia, Leila Pinheiro, Dona Ivone Lara, Bibi Ferreira, Elza Soares, among others.
Seven-string guitarist, composer, arranger, and music producer Rafael Mallmith is a member of Trio Madeira Brasil and one of the most sought-after names by artists of the new generations of the samba and choro scene for shows and recordings. Throughout his career, he has shared the stage and studio with big names in Brazilian music, such as Yamandu Costa, Monarco, Nelson Sargento, Wilson Moreira, Paulo Cesar Pinheiro, among others. He has released three albums, “Cordão amigo,” “Choro pro mundo,” and “Onze cordas,” works dedicated to the world of choro.
