Sunday in the Garden celebrates International Jazz Day
To celebrate International Jazz Day, celebrated on April 30, Domingo no Jardim presents the Vinícius Perez Trio on May 4. Multi-instrumentalist Vinícius Perez will be accompanied by bassist and composer Marcos Silva and drummer and percussionist Júlio Diniz. The repertoire includes classics of the musical style, such as The way you look tonight (Frank Sinatra), Donna Lee (Miles Davis), They can't take that away from me (Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong), among others.
International Jazz Day was created in 2011 under the influence of the American pianist Herbie Hancock, who that year took on the role of UNESCO Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue. The commemorative date pays homage to the musical genre that has influenced generations.
Regarded as one of the best instrumentalists and arrangers of his generation, Vinícius Perez has a classical music education and holds a master's degree in classical guitar from the Hochschule Luzern - Musik in Switzerland. Marcos Silva, from Pernambuco, is influenced by various artists of different styles, such as Herbie Hancock, Luiz Gonzaga and Gilberto Gil. Júlio Diniz, from Rio de Janeiro, has an Afro-suburban background. He has performed with the Robertinho Silva percussion orchestra in the “Batucadas brasileiras” project, alongside big names in Brazilian music such as Wagner Tiso, Luiz Melodia, Ivan Lins, among others.
The performance will take place at 11am, in front of the bust of Dom João, and is free of charge. Visitors only pay the entrance fee to the arboretum. In the event of rain, it will be transferred to the Galpão das Artes.
