Students from the ENBT Graduate Program in Botany win awards
Award-winning doctoral students Carolina Urman Vieira and Gabrielly Guabiraba Ribeiro
Two students from the Graduate Program in Botany at the National School of Tropical Botany/JBRJ won awards this month. Doctoral student Gabrielly Guabiraba Ribeiro was awarded first place in the Floral Poetry Contest, organized by the 75th National Botany Congress (CNBOT 2025), held on August 15 in the city of Parnaíba, Piauí. Upon receiving the award, Gabrielly highlighted the relevance of scientific research.
"I am very grateful to the CNBOT organization and, equally, to the Brazilian Botanical Society, for this wonderful initiative and opportunity to provide us with cross-cutting spaces for the expression of our scientific research. It is no coincidence that botany is considered the scientia amabilis. The plant world is full of colors, shapes, flavors, and textures. The relationship between botanists and plants is strong and goes beyond our more traditional academic demands. All of us who love plants must be aware of our role and promote the dissemination of our research results, as well as our passions. The award I received, in the amount of R$1,000, will be used to cover expenses for visits to national herbaria," she said.
PhD student Carolina Urman Vieira was awarded the Scientia Amabilis prize by the Brazilian Botanical Society, which aims to encourage postgraduate work in the early stages of development.
"With the opportunity I had to go to CNBOT and with the support of my advisors, I decided to apply my dissertation project on the Anthurium genus in the Sooretama Biological Reserve, and I hope it will contribute to the regional flora of the state and Brazil. I am extremely happy and grateful to have been honored with this award, and I am sure it will be of great support for the progress of my research. I am immensely grateful to SBB and ENBT for the opportunity, she emphasized.
