Spice Trail is the highlight of Fridays in July
Launched to commemorate the 217th anniversary of the founding of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, the Spice Trail is the highlight of the Friday Trails program in July. The trail invites visitors to embark on a sensory and historical journey along the paths that connected continents through spices - ancestral knowledge that crossed oceans, mainly from India, as well as Southeast Asia, the Americas and Africa. Valued for their intense flavors and striking aromas, spices have transformed cultures, cuisines and trade routes around the world.
Approximately one kilometer long and lasting about an hour, the Spice Trail passes 18 points of botanical and landscape interest, showing how nature and culture intertwine in each aroma and story. Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum), black pepper (Piper nigrum), turmeric (Curcuma longa), ginger (Zingiber officinale), rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus), coffee (Coffea arabica), cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), lychee (Litchi chinensis), breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis), among others, are part of the trail.
The trail will be offered on the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th of this month. It is free with admission to the arboretum. Departures take place at 10am from the Visitor Center. There is no need to register, just arrive and take part. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or at jbrj.eleventickets.com
In the event of rain, the trail will be canceled.
