Signing of Collective Agreement with the Horto Community
Agreement signed on Monday (13)
On Monday, October 13, a collective agreement was signed that represents a milestone in building a harmonious relationship between the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ) and residents of the Horto community, located in the JBRJ area.
The document was signed by the JBRJ, the Association of Residents and Friends of Horto (Amahor), the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), the Federal Government through the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (SGPR), the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (Iphan), the Federal Public Defender's Office (DPU), and the City of Rio.
The agreement, which involves about 600 properties located in a federal area, provides that the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden will retain ownership of the area and establishes guidelines and mechanisms to enable eligible residents to remain, under regulated rules.
With the signing of the collective agreement, eligible residents will be able to sign individual agreements to remain in the area and must follow established rules of coexistence to ensure the environmental conservation of the region, including the prohibition of vertical and/or horizontal growth of properties.
Compliance with individual agreements will be monitored by the Monitoring Committee, formed by representatives of residents, the Botanical Garden, Rio City Hall, and the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic.
The collective agreement with the Horto community is the result of a joint effort involving local residents and representatives from the JBRJ, the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA), IPHAN, the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Federal Public Defender's Office.
