Rio's Botanical Garden promotes special event for Atlantic Forest Day
To celebrate Atlantic Forest Day, observed on May 27, the Environmental Education Service (SEA) of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden is hosting the event “A Journey Through the Atlantic Forest at the Rio Botanical Garden” from May 27 to 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Aimed at school groups and the general public, the activity invites participants to walk part of the Atlantic Forest trail in the arboretum, recognized as a Core Area of the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve. Along the way, visitors will learn about native species of the biome’s flora and fauna and understand the historical importance of the water system for the preservation of this ecosystem.
The tour includes the observation of 27 species, such as brazilwood, ironwood, sapucaia, pink jequitibá, and juçara palm. At the end, children will participate in an origami workshop featuring species representative of the Atlantic Forest.
To participate, you must register by emailing educativo@jbrj.gov.br. In case of rain, the activity will take place at the SEA headquarters, located next to the ticket office.
