Check out the program.
Thursday, March 27th and Friday, March 28th
Knowing and preserving the Coastal-Marine System
Location: Environmental Education Service (SEA) headquarters, next to the ticket office
The activities, led by SEA educators, are aimed at children, with the aim of spreading the word in a playful way about the importance of conserving the oceans, seas and marine resources.
Among the initiatives planned are a marine environment memory game, deep-sea dominoes, a modeling workshop and the distribution of educational booklets. The activities provide fun learning, reinforcing knowledge about the oceans and the marine ecosystem, as well as encouraging children to adopt conscious attitudes towards preserving the seas.
Times: 9am to 4pm
Bibliographic exhibition on the theme of the Coastal-Marine System
Time: from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Barbosa Rodrigues Library
Saturday 29/3
Workshop “Macroalgae and the preservation of coastal and marine ecosystems”
Time: 1pm to 5pm
Venue: Botanical Garden Museum
Macroalgae play crucial roles in coastal and marine ecosystems, inhabiting diverse environments such as rocky shores, underwater forests, rhodolith banks, sargassum seas, mangroves, among others, thriving at depths of up to approximately 200 meters. The workshop will take a playful approach to the subject.
The public will also be able to immerse themselves in the subject through three educational games:
1. Duel of the macroalgae - A strategic card game in which different species face environmental challenges such as low tide, herbivory and pollution. Who will be the toughest macroalgae?
2. Genera of marine macroalgae from the coast of Brazil - A memory game to test your ability to recognize and associate different genera of macroalgae present on our coast. Can you remember them all?
3. Marine mine - A playful tool that puts the visitor in the role of an ocean explorer, learning about coastal ecosystems and the environmental impacts that threaten them.
Planting stories: Araçá-da-praia
Time: 3pm and 5pm
Location: Botanical Garden Museum
To highlight the importance of the transition zone between Brazil's continental and marine ecosystems, this edition of “Planting Stories” presents the beach araçá (Psidium cattleianum), a native species of exuberant beauty. As well as contributing to biodiversity, its fruit deeply inspires art and culture. With its enveloping aroma and sweet taste, it spans generations, being celebrated in poetry and songs that exalt nature and our connection with the environment.
In the activity, participants will be able to explore the characteristics and curiosities of the Coastal-Marine System, as well as taking part in a collective listening to the song “Flor de araçá”, by Grupo Agreste. The experience will serve as a starting point for an artistic creation inspired by the relationship between music and the natural landscape.
Target audience: Children of all ages, families and visitors in general
Places: 20 per session
Sunday 30/3
Educational visit: From the ocean to the laboratory
Time: from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Botanical Garden Museum
The visit highlights the research carried out by the Rio Botanical Garden, which goes from the forest to the ocean to the laboratory. The educational tour of the Botanical Garden Museum's long-term exhibition reveals the wealth of Brazilian flora and shows how scientific knowledge contributes directly to the conservation of species and the formulation of public policies in the country.
