Mauricio Einhorn and Cliff Korman's show celebrates Mother's Day at the Rio Botanical Garden
This coming Mother’s Day, celebrated on May 10, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden invites the public to a musical performance that transcends generations and borders. Legendary Rio de Janeiro harmonica player and composer Mauricio Einhorn joins American pianist Cliff Korman for a concert that promises to thrill the audience with classics such as “Corcovado,” “Manhã de Carnaval,” “As Rosas Não Falam,” “Tristeza de Nós Dois,” “Carinhoso,” and others.
Considered one of the most important active harmonica players in the world, Mauricio Einhorn, who is about to turn 94, received his first instrument from his parents—amateur harmonica players—at the age of 5. Since then, he has dedicated himself to studying the harmonica as a self-taught musician.
Over the course of a professional career spanning more than 70 years, he has participated in over a thousand recordings and had his compositions performed by Brazilian and international artists such as Tom Jobim, Sarah Vaughan, Kenny Barron, Angela Ro Ro, Agepê, Baden Powell, Paulo Moura, Marcos Valle, Edu Lobo, Eumir Deodato, João Donato, Ivan Lins, Zizi Possi, Ney Matogrosso, Nana Caymmi, Danilo Caymmi, Silvio César, Alcione, Raul Seixas, Maria Bethânia, Chico Buarque, Odair José, Kenny G, David Sanborn, Monty Alexander, Sá e Guarabyra, Sérgio Sampaio, Gal Costa, Luiz Melodia, among others.
Cliff Korman is a pianist, composer, arranger, and researcher. He studied and graduated in New York, his hometown, under jazz masters Roland Hanna, Barry Harris, Ron Carter, Kenny Barron, and David Liebman. Over the course of his more than 40-year career, he has performed at international jazz festivals and clubs, including the Village Vanguard and Blue Note venues in New York, Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, and Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he has performed with artists such as Milton Nascimento, Leny Andrade, Astrud Gilberto, and Jon Lucien, as well as in four-hand performances with pianists Wagner Tiso, Gilson Peranzzetta, and Cristóvão Bastos.
