Lecture explores medicinal and edible plants of Rio de Janeiro's Coastal Restingas at the 3rd EPA
The lecture will take place at the JBRJ Medicinal Plants Thematic Collection.
The third edition of EPA – Ethnobotany With Open Doors, organized by the Extension Program in Ethnobotany and Medicinal Plants of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, will take place on July 30 for another afternoon of dialogue and knowledge exchange.
This edition will feature researcher Nicky van Luijk, who will present the lecture “Medicinal and Edible Plants of Rio de Janeiro's Coastal Restingas: An Ethnobotanical Journey Through the Lakes Region.” Nicky holds both a master's and a PhD in Biodiversity in Protected Areas from the National School of Tropical Botany (ENBT/JBRJ). Her research focuses on ethnobotany, with an emphasis on the cultural transmission of local ecological knowledge.
The lecture will highlight the scientific outreach of Nicky's doctoral dissertation (PPGP/ENBT), emphasizing its contributions to the conservation and ethnobotanical knowledge of medicinal and edible plants found in the coastal restingas of Rio de Janeiro State.
The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Medicinal Plants Thematic Collection of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. Registration for in-person participation is free of charge and can be completed through the online registration form. Attendance is limited to 50 participants.
The lecture will also be streamed live by Google Meet.
