On May 28, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden launched the Data Panel of the National Center for Flora Conservation (CNCFlora). The Panel is an interactive tool on the state of conservation of Brazilian flora. It was developed to provide quick, qualified, customized and up-to-date data to decision-makers, managers, researchers, evaluators and other interested parties.
Through the Panel, it is possible to filter, cross-reference, visualize and download different types of data on Brazilian plants and fungi automatically. Users can search the data by taxonomy, extinction risk assessment, threats, geographical distribution, geographical range, ecological attributes, reproductive strategies, uses, among other options. The tool also provides information on species that are included in conservation actions. In this way, it makes it easier to identify patterns and trends when running complex queries.
The Data Dashboard is automatically updated every time an update is made to the Flora and Funga of Brazil or the CNCFlora extinction risk assessment system. It is also capable of generating customized reports through an intuitive web interface, and offers geospatialized filters for detailed and customized analyses, data download in different formats and dynamic visualization through graphs and maps, as well as other features.
CNCFlora - Created in 2009 within the Scientific Research Directorate of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ), the National Center for Flora Conservation (CNCFlora) is currently a directorate of the JBRJ, with the mission of “coordinating, promoting and contributing to the actions necessary to prevent the extinction of species of Brazilian flora, contributing to achieving the goals set by the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) and the guidelines established by the National Biodiversity Conservation Program and the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan - EPANB”. It is responsible for assessing the risk of extinction of species for inclusion on the Official List of Endangered Species of Brazilian Flora, as well as drawing up National Action Plans (PAN) to prevent the extinction of these species, among other tasks.
