Historical Trail is the highlight of December at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden

The Historical Trail is the highlight of the Friday Trails at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden in December. The free guided tour takes you to more than 50 points, where you can see the rich collection of botanical species, artistic and architectural monuments of the bicentennial institution.

 The Casa dos Pilões Archaeological Site Museum, the portal and ruins of the old Royal Gunpowder Factory, the Fine Arts portal, the Karl Glasl grotto, the collection of medicinal plants, the rose garden, the Japanese garden, the Amazon region, among others, are on the itinerary of the Historical Trail, the most complete of the trails offered to the public by the Botanical Garden.

 Founded on June 13, 1808 by Dom João, the Botanical Garden arose from the decision of the then Portuguese prince regent to install a gunpowder factory and a garden there for the acclimatization of plant species from other parts of the world. Today, it is one of the most respected scientific institutions in the world and has a cultivated area of more than 23,000 plants and approximately 3,500 species.

 The Friday Trails are guided by Visitor Center staff and are free of charge, with only an entrance ticket for the arboretum. There is no need to register, just arrive and take part.
