Historical objects from the Collection and Memory are on the guided tour promoted by the Rio Botanical Garden
On June 4, the public will have the opportunity to see up close a diverse and significant set of objects that help tell the scientific, institutional and cultural history of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. Among the items on display are scientific instruments used in botanical research over time, historical documents by researchers such as João Geraldo Kuhlmann and Graziela Maciel Barroso, paintings, medals and archaeological objects found in the Botanical Garden's own territory.
The tour also includes an overview of the institution's historical photographic collection, made up of albums, photographs, glass and flexible negatives, as well as old cameras. Another highlight is the furniture that for decades made up the laboratories and researchers' offices, pieces that carry with them the memory of the institution's scientific work throughout its history.
The guided tour of the Collection and Memory Shed will be led by technicians from the Museum and Collection Division. The space plays a strategic role in preserving and enhancing the institutional memory of the Rio Botanical Garden, housing items that bear witness to the centenary history of the institution and its impact on botany, scientific research and environmental conservation. Visits will take place every two months.
The visits will take place at two times, at 10am and 2pm. To take part, you must register in advance by emailing cvis@jbrj.gov.br. There are 15 places per shift. The target audience is researchers, students from related areas and professionals from the cultural heritage sector. The general public can also register.
